Lion king the musical review
This did not bode well with the bare-chested lions or the animals made of wood and cloth which consumed the rest of the narrative.
Lion king matinee time
We both absolutely adored the beauty of the costumes. As beautiful ambulant puppets flood the aisles of the stalls, parading onto the stage, it is definitely easy to believe oneself transported into the midst of an animal parade in the heart of Africa. No regrets and I would definitely watch it for a third time. There were also comical canadian remarks making this show unique. Everything still looks wonderful, and looks practically brand new, too. To me, it felt like watching Timon as powered by The Grinch. Performances run Tuesdays to Saturdays at pm with matinees on Wednesdays and Saturdays. The magic of the stage is alive and well here and worth experiencing with your family and friends. It was very empowering and I felt like I wanted to jump onto the stage and join the cast roaring as a lion! The show appeals to our primal, childlike excitement in the power of theater to make us see things afresh. Taymor, the avant-garde director to whom Disney entrusted the piece, outdid herself. I wanted her to be even more animated, ebullient, mystical and eccentric.
The score is strong at places and functional at others; while Elton John and Tim Rice receive top billing, a scouring of the program will uncover ten credited songwriters, which explains why the score is not of one piece.
If you want to see a show that will leave you feeling happy, uplifting, I recommend visiting The Lion King, it was worth every penny!
But no! Seeing the original production back in as a Disney-obsessed child, I was blown away by the concept, theatricality and the sheer scale of the production.
Astonishing inand—yes—just as astonishing today. Visually, then, the production was rather blurry.

It was very empowering and I felt like I wanted to jump onto the stage and join the cast roaring as a lion! The smaller stage of Prince of Whales worked perfectly for this show. This problem has easy solutions: a system of sticks, for instance, which would guide small jumping creatures monkeys, for example; insects, even and various birds of prey from the circle down to the stage, permitting a tidy and endearing proximity with the animals for these otherwise ignored members of the audience. Having only two birds greet them, wielded on sticks by performers below in the stalls, immersion was secondhand for these audience members. The challenge with any Disney musical is to accurately portray the character to which many have already formed an emotional connection, whilst still keeping it original and engaging. Every single character, puppet, set piece, etc. I wanted to revel in the performances and marvel in the sheer athleticism required for this show — I did get to do exactly that.
The staging, layout, costumes, was second to none, and was amazed at the stunts, and stage work. Her movements were too restrictive and repetitive, and her demeanour was far too inwardly.
